John Gaskin, Tuwharetoa Angus, Tarcutta, with Gerald Ryan, Brian Unthank Rodwell Albury, who operated on behalf of Rob Cox, "Kooyong", Tooma,
to secure five bulls. |
A shortage of both cows and rain in the south made for a small gallery of buyers at the Gaskin family's Tuwharetoa Angus Bull Sale last Tuesday at "Strathvean" Tarcutta.
The 22 bulls sold at auction, from an offering of 47, made to a top of $4500, and average of $2545.
A 686-Kilogram son of Te mania Unlimited U3271, from a Vermillion Yellowstone cow, made the top money. Tuwharetoa C110 (AI) was secured by Rob Cox "Kooyong", Tooma.
Mr Cox has been buying bulls at Tuwharetoa for about six years and was unable to be at the sale, but had inspected the bulls a fortnight earlier.
His top priced had estimated breeding values (EBVs) in the top one per cent of the breed for Intra-Muscular Fat and the Long fed $index, as well as in the top 10pc for Milk, Rump Fat and Heavy Grassfed Steer and Short Fed Domestic $Indexes.
Mr Cox secured a further four bulls, with an average of $2950 for the draft.
Second top price of $4000 went to the Graham family's Bongongo Angus Stud "Riverview", Coolac. The son of Tuwharetoa A49 (AI) (ET), itself by Ardrossan Connection X15 (AI) (ET)(TNC), had EBVs in the top one per cent of the breed for gestation length and the long-fed $index, and in the top %5 for Birth Weight, Eye Muscle Area, IMF and Heavy Grassfed Steer, Short-fed Domestic and Terminal $Indexes.
F.G and J.A morse, "Mena", Gulargambone, secured three bulls for $3000 each, while the Julong Partnership, "Julong", Tumut, paid to $2250 for their three purchases.
Stud Principal, John Gaskin, said he was happy to see a number of return buyers, despite the prices being a little disappointing. The sale was conducted by Elders Wagga Wagga, with auctioneer, Micheal Glasser, saying the sale was reflective of a very difficult season.
